Hi.
I've seen countless nurses and GPs over the years and none of them have ever said anything about my chest, infact even when I asked about it I got the response "its normal".
Recently tho i've started to had panic attacks and bouts of depression associated with it and subsiquently have been seriously worried about my health. I've been to the hospital a few times while having a panic attack to make sure nothing was wrong with me, I had blood presssure, pulse check and an ECG along with someone listening to my chest just to make sure nothing was wrong with me. All have turned out normal, but one doctor said I should have my PE looked at by a specialist, even though its "nothing to worry about".
However this has worried me greatly, I'm not paranoid that my chest is digging into my heart or something or that i might die from it. I thought I would ask you guys some questions as i'm quite worried...
1) Is it dangerous? has anyone ever died from it? I've never felt particularly unwell from it, ie, breathlesness but I dont know anymore.
2) Is the surgery dangrouse? have ppl died from that?
3) when seeing a specialist would they check to see the possiton of the heart and lung capacity? using x-rays or something?
4) I read that the heart rotates with pe? does it rotate in a clockwise/anti-clockwise fashion or as in on an axis rotation? and if so what are the dangers of the heart being twisted like this?
5) Does the condition reduce lifespan? i'm worried that maybe the lungs or heart in these weird possitons would have some adverse affect on me.
6) does the depression in the chest stop growing? I'm 18 now and am worried it will just keep on getting deeper and deeper
7) lastly, after reading up on one of the operations, I heard that a bar is inserted behind the sternum after all the muscle has been cut and re-inserted. What is this bar? whats stopping it from moving about and causng damage? and does it get romoved?
thanks
